SOUL FC at the Gothia Cup,
SOUL football club have returned from Sweden after a successful run in the Gothia World youth cup.
SOUL started the tournament with a win against a tough Swedish team and than drew 0-0 with a Russian academy side, the team missed out on the A cup only on goal difference. They came out fighting for the B cup and knocked out Swedish team Lillehammer 4-1, and than beat Vallans FC 3-2 to move to the 6th round, Soul than beat Tonbridge united an English team from Kent on penalties. The team went down to 10 men and had to come back twice to take the game into penalties, where SOUL scored all 5 and Sajid Miah saved the deciding penalty to take the team forward. SOUL went to the Friday Morning game at 8 in the morning, and came out victorious against another strong Swedish team beating them 4-3. The team moved onto the quarters and fatigue crept in and were beaten by eventual finalists From Bosnia.
It was a fantastic tour for the boys who will learn a lot about football and life skills, it was a fantastic tournament and the team did very well to move into the last eight from 200 teams. The tournament is very tough and took a lot out of the boys. The boy’s finshed on a massive high. Sabir Ahmed and Jabed Hussain scored 5 goals each with Captain Riaj Uddin adding 3. Captain Riaj was very proud of his team and lead by example throughout the tournament, changing pennants with teams from all over the world was a highlight for him. The team awarded Shelim Abdin the player of the tournament.
SOUL would like to thank the coaches and staff who made a valuable contribution,Head Coach Juned Ali, along with Shipon Miah and Shipu Miah. They were assisted by Movement coach Jahed Khan (Zola ) and Nutrition Coach Md Hussain. The tour was managed by Mahbub Hussain.
SOUL are also competing in the Umbro international tournament in Manchester with the U15s.
